PA Budget Update

Following this weekend's passage of a budget by the PA House (which differed in how it raised revenue from the original three-caucus proposal by removing small games of chance and an arts tax from the equation and replacing it with taxes on cigars, smokeless tobacco, and natural gas extraction), Senate Republicans are now coming forward with a new budget proposal.

According to an article from earlier today, Senate Republicans expected this new budget to come in below the $27.9 billion agreed to through the three-caucus budget. More details are expected to come later this afternoon. Timelines for final passage vary, with Senate Republicans offering a best case scenario of passage by the end of the week, and House Democrats saying that a new budget proposal will add weeks to the final process.
